Palisade Glacier Bristlecone Pines

The Palisade Glacier

The Palisade Glacier is the largest glacier in the High Sierra. The peaks, which rise above this glacier, are steep from all sides and provide a splendid backdrop to almost any scene in the Big Pine area. These peaks which rise to over 14,000' elevation surrender their immensity in the tranquil valleys to be found in the North Fork and South Fork of Big Pine Creek.

The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest

The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest high above the Owens Valley in the White Mountains offers an opportunity to view trees, which are thousands of years old and still growing. The view from the Bristlecone forest across the Owens Valley to the Sierra Crest is the absolute best one attainable of the entire crest area.
